Yvonne Annette Soucie, was born March 1, 1962 and passed peacefully on August 22, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. She left this world surrounded by her loving children, her mother, siblings, and other family who cherished her dearly.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her son Paul Anthony, her father August Christian Finger Jr., her sister Joanie Michelle, and her grandparents (Louis and Fern Ullrich, August Sr and Thelma Finger).
She is survived by her children Joshua Louis, Rachel Anne (Joseph), Sarah Elizabeth, and Hannah Grace; grandson Isaac Joshua; mother Joan Finger, siblings Deanna Pierre (Lloyd), Julie Kouremetis (John), Chris Finger (Norma), Mary Delgado, Jeanette Zoeller (Duane) as well as her numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
As a kid, Yvonne was always a morning person. She would wake up singing, much to the chagrin of her parents and siblings. She never wanted to miss out on the action. She has always been a busy bee, involved in so many clubs and organizations throughout her life.
She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, a candy-striper, a singer in His Brothers' Children choir, an archery and swimming instructor, a seamstress, an ACTS retreat team member for both youth and adults, a GRACE Retreat leader, and an avid Adoration attendee.
As a Girl Scout Troop leader, her younger sisters remember her constant injuries - burning her hand on a hot coffee pot, cutting herself with a knife as she tried slicing a tomato, rolling her ankle, among others. She signed up to be a candy-striper, thinking she may want to be a nurse. However, she soon discovered that her aversion to blood made her much more suited to a service role through teaching rather than nursing.
As a lifelong singer and musician, Yvonne got her start in the St. Mary Magdalen choir and later, the group His Brothers' Children. With HBC, she toured Eastern Europe, performing and exploring. Her mother was very relieved she made it back in one piece! She passed on this love of travel to her children, who have been all over the world.
She worked as an archery and swimming instructor at Tecaboca summer camp for 10 years, where she attended with siblings and friends. She learned to sew in high school and was always very proud of having made her own swimsuit and even her going-away dress for her wedding.
Later in life, she got involved in the Women's ACTS program at Our Lady of Grace, where she was a parishioner for over 30 years. When her children began doing Youth ACTS, she did not hesitate to volunteer for those retreats as well. She loved spending time with her kids on retreat and being a Mom to any and every kid who might need one. She was always someone to go to for a big warm hug, an encouraging word, a smile, or just a comforting presence.
In addition to her hobbies and volunteer work, Yvonne was a teacher for 31 years, where she touched the lives of countless students and "teacher friends", as she lovingly called them. She taught in numerous schools across the SA area including St Mary Magdalen Catholic School, Mount Sacred Heart, St Anthony's Catholic School, Lackland City Elementary, Colonies North Elementary and most recently Hatchett Elementary where she taught until her retirement in May.
Yvonne was a devout Catholic who loved her parish of Our Lady of Grace where she spent many early morning hours before school in Adoration where she honored the prayer requests of anyone who needed them. Her family lovingly jokes that God was the only one awake enough to talk with her that early in the morning.
Yvonne was a loving mother, Mimi, daughter, sister, family member, and friend. She will always be remembered as someone who provided comfort and a sense of being unconditionally loved and accepted to everyone who crossed paths with her. We cannot imagine life without her, but we will do our best to honor her by showing the same unconditional love to everyone we meet.
