Obituary

Ysidro Gonzales passed into our Lord Jesus' loving arms on November 25, 2014, surrounded by his family. His parents Manuel and Martha S. Gonzales, Angelita Gonzalez (sister), Martin Gonzales (brother) and Trinidad Gonzales (uncle) preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Dominga Gonzales, brother Raymond Gonzales (Janie), sisters Adelina Gonzales and Pauline Santos; children Martha Gonzales (Jesse), Teresa Bates (Tim), Frances Langhorne (Steve), Rosemary Gonzales and Ysidro J. Gonzales, Jr. (Mark); grandchildren David Michael Delgado (Ryan), Lisa Gibson (Taras), Jacob Sanchez (Stephanie), Anthony Sanchez, Naomi Gonzales (Gabriel), Sarah Gonzales-Nguyen (Anhthony), Diane Marie Delgado (Johanna) and Phillip Gonzales (Valena); great-grandchildren Joshua Sanchez, Sabrina Sanchez, Jacob Raine Sanchez, Lorrisa Gibson; great-great grandchild Zachary Alexander Rodriguez. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Ysidro was born in Charlotte, Texas. He met his wife, Dominga of Pearsall, Texas in 1952; a short time later, they married and moved to San Antonio. In 1959, they purchased their first home in the Las Palmas neighborhood in the city's west side. Ysidro worked at Swift Independent Packing Company from 1952-1984. In his spare time, he loved to serve his community. In the 1960's he coached CYO baseball and basketball teams. He participated in San Antonio Fighting Back- Weed and Seed program and the Cellular on Patrol (COPS) program. In 2005, the San Antonio Police Officers Association presented him with the Distinguished Service Award for his volunteer efforts. He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel where he served proudly for 50 years on the Holy Name Society, served as Fourth Degree Chancellor in the Knights of Columbus (council 9730, 12521), and performed various duties supporting the parish priests. Several days a week, he ensured the children of his parish made it safely to CCD classes by serving as a crossing guard on General McMullen Dr. and Castroville Rd. Our grandfather had a very outgoing personality and made friends everywhere he went. He loved to hunt and barbecue brisket. He enjoyed watching "Los Spurs," Cowboys, and the 10pm local news. He was very proud of his family and encouraged all of us to strive for success. FUNERAL SERVICES Visitation will begin Sunday at 3:00 P.M. in The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 5:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Monday at 12:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Interment will follow in San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No.2.
