William (Bill) Dale Savage born December 4, 1959 in Burlington, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 23, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Eugene Savage; mother, Evangeline Savage; sister, Leslie Savage-Ghavami; brother, Michael William Savage.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Gracie Savage; son, Tyler Savage; daughter, Savannah Savage; brother, Richard Savage (Gail); sister Laura Johnson (Wendy); sister Holly Logas (Scott); sister, Julie Thomas (Jerome); 23 nieces and nephews, 37 grand nieces and nephews, 1 great-great niece and many more friends that felt like family.
Bill was a graduate of Burlington High school in Burlington, Iowa. He later enlisted in the United States Army which led him to being stationed in San Antonio Texas. After he left the Army, he began working at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course. Progressing in his career, he would later become a Superintendent at The Windcrest Golf Course where he retired.
During his time in San Antonio, Bill and Gracie began their 40-year love story after meeting while both working at the softball field. He loved to officiate all sports as he enjoyed seeing anyone flourish and have fun. As their story continued, they welcomed their two children, Tyler and Savannah. Bill was very active in the lives of his children as he was truly a child at heart.
Bill was an avid sports fan, hunter, fisherman, griller, golfer, gardener and all-around outdoorsman. His favorite teams would include the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. Bill loved his trips back home to Iowa where he created memories with his family during Christmas time and other celebrations. He loved hunting with his longtime friends, even if that consisted of just driving along the Iowa fields he grew up around. He was also known for his willingness to stop and ask the farmers for permission to hunt their land.
Bill appreciated the extended family he became a part of. The running joke was that Bill married all of the Casas sisters when he married Gracie and he let everyone know that he would not have it any other way. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He wanted to include everyone and make sure no one around him would ever feel left out. He was a very essential part of almost every holiday in the family. From taking special orders on Mother's Day to carving out a kickball field for the traditional Easter game, Bill was always willing to do anything for his family.
Bill's loving personality reached beyond his family. From the doctor's office to grocery stores, anyone within his friendly atmosphere would be given his signature candy, a Werther's. He would reply "all it cost was a smile". Everyone knew when Bill had stopped by because they would always come back to that golden candy left in their space. He wanted everyone to have a great day.
Bill was a beloved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, godfather, and friend who will truly be missed. At his request, Bill will be cremated following the services below:
