Walter Gene White was born on October 28, 1956 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Elizabeth Reed White and Leo Johnson. He departed this life to be with Jesus, Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the age of 61.
Walter grew up in Tuscaloosa Alabama and graduated from Druid High School in 1975. He joined the United States Army August 27, 1984 and served until May 3, 1991. He met his wife, Claudia while in the Army and they were married May 4, 1990. Walter became a nurse in 1997 and worked at various hospitals. He ended his nursing career at Kindred Hospital in San Antonio, Texas in June 2015, after he became ill.
Walter was a man of few words and he enjoyed the simple things in life. He enjoyed being at home with his wife and two dogs; it was his place of solace. He loved to fish, garden, and cook. Walter was an avid sports fan and his passion was University of Alabama football. During the college football season you could always hear him say "Roll Tide". He always planted a garden in his backyard and enjoyed sharing vegetables with family and friends. Walter cared deeply for his family and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Walter learned what was really important in life: his relationship with Jesus, his wife, his children, his family, and friends. He wanted them to know how much he loved them and his only concern in his last days was leaving those he loved.
Walter is preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Reed White; father Leo Johnson, and brother Israel White.
Walter is survived by his wife Claudia White, of San Antonio, Texas; son Derrick (Jamila) Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter Jaquetta (Willie) Samuel of Ralph, Alabama; 8 grandchildren Jedeldric, Peyton, Mason, Jamison, Javious, Jyreeh, Tres, and Gavyn. He is also survived by his siblings Roosevelt (Georgia) White, of Staten Island, New York; Joseph White, of Tuscaloosa Alabama; James (Josephine) White, of Tuscaloosa Alabama; Dorothy (James) Grey, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Willie White, of Amarillo, Texas; Earnest Johnson, Reno, Nevada; Vanessa (Gary) McGee Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There are also a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives, and friends who will surely miss him.
