Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved mother, Virginia Zamarripa (nee Morin) age 89 of San Antonio, who passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

She was born in Karnes City, Texas and lived in San Antonio, TX, Canyon Lake, TX and Helotes, TX.

Virginia (a/k/a "Mom" by many) was an exemplary mother, dedicated to the raising and wellbeing of her children until her last breath.  She had a deep Faith and trusted her God in all aspects of her life.

Early on, she worked part-time as a school crossing guard (mama patrol) and made many relationships with students and parents who attended St. Mary Magdalen School, Ben Franklin Elementary, and Whittier Jr. High, as they made their way to school.

As her children grew older, she then began a career with Edgewood ISD in the Food and Nutrition Department. She started as a part time cafeteria worker, and advanced to supervisory and managerial nutrition cafeteria positions, ending her career as Area District Manager overseeing the school district guidelines pertaining to nutrition services, assessment and education. She retired after 30 years with the school district. She cherished the many close friendships she made with peers, teachers, and principals during her time there. Her favorite memories were those she made with the children.

Following a brief retirement from Edgewood ISD, she began a second mini career at Harcourt Educational Assessment/Pearson, a publishing and testing company. She was an administrative assistant in the Sampling department. In her ten years, here too, she found many lifelong friends.

Virgina had a passion for cooking. She was a mean little chef.  She found joy in creating delicious meals for family gatherings, friends and coworkers. She was especially known for her homemade tamales.

Beyond the kitchen, Virginia loved the beauty of nature and the outdoors.  She spent countless hours exploring and camping at the lake and walking on the shores of many beaches. She was enthralled by "God's creations" and the breathtaking scenery she witnessed during her travels. Also, an avid animal lover, she loved and nurtured all living creatures. She cared for many… small, large, wild or domestic, she could not bear to see anyone or anything suffer.

Virginia unconditionally and non-judgmentally loved everyone. She was a Mom to all. We will forever carry her in our hearts and cherish the memories of a beloved soul who touched many lives.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, David Anthony Reyes; daughter-in-law, Teresa Zamarripa, and by the father of her children, Louis P. Zamarripa, Sr.

Virginia is survived by her children, Diane Zamarripa, Louis Zamarripa, Jr., Linda Zamarripa Moreno (Raul M. Moreno), and Brenda Zamarripa (partner Lisa Mendoza); grandchildren, Louis Zamarripa III (Leticia Ornelas), Laura Michelle Zamarripa (James Vargas), Eric Steven Zamarripa, Jeremiah Zamarripa Ortiz, Gerald Sanchez; Jaclyn Webb, Desiree Hernandez; Tristan Moreno; great-grandchildren, Cairi Reyes, Xavier Zamarripa, Dominic Zamarripa, Elias Moreno and Adrian Hill.
