Obituary

Uva Ramirez Perches went to be with the Lord on October 31st, 2018 at the age of 81. She was the oldest of four children born to Jesus Ramirez Guerra and Natalia Robles De Ramirez in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. She is reunited in eternal rest with her parents, her two brothers José Francisco Ramirez and Jesus Arnulfo Ramirez Robles, her brother in law Alvaro Antonio Guajardo Martinez, her nephew Armando Ramirez Hernandez and the father of her children Jesus Mario Perches Estrada.

Uva is survived by her three sons, Mario, Alejandro and David, her sister Concepción Bertha Ramirez de Guajardo, her sisters in law Angelita Garcia de Ramirez and Lourdes Hernandez de Ramirez, her daughter-in law Connie, her 29 nephews and nieces and her 6 grandchildren – Alán, Gabi, Matthew, Sarah, Kyle and Caroline.

Uva was born on December 14th, 1936 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. Her early childhood years would be spent helping on the 500-acre family ranch, Rancho San Francisco, raising and caring for some of the livestock. The family had dairy cows, horses, chickens and roosters to name just a few. She felt her calling was to help sick people and decided to attend the Universidad Autonomo de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico and received her degree as Laboratorista Clinico Biologo. She met her future husband and father of her children, Jesus Mario in medical school. Choosing to sacrifice her career for family instead, they moved to San Antonio in 1962, to raise their family.

While her husband served in the US Army in Vietnam, she did an extraordinary job raising 3 sons with the help of family and friends. She was active in many of their school activities including PTC and homeroom mom and of course shuttling her sons to all their extracurricular activities.

She attended English as a Second Language classes and was so proud of the opportunities her new country afforded her that she became a naturalized citizen in the Summer of 1985. She proudly displayed the US flag around her home and would often wear flag pins on her lapels. She was also a devout Catholic and member of the Guadalupana Society at St. Matthew Catholic Church. One highlight of her life was witnessing mass by St John Paul II, whom she adored, when he came to visit San Antonio in 1987.

She LOVED cooking for family and friends and had a large collection of gadgets and recipes to prove it. Some of her favorites to cook for everyone were her petite tamales, buñuelos, menudo, Swedish meatballs and fried rice. She also enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, ceramics and painting. She was a very talented, sweet, sweet lady who touched many peoples' lives and had LOTS of friends. She will be missed.

The Perches Family would like to thank all her doctors, all the surgeons, nurses and support staff that cared for her at Methodist Hospital, Powerback/Remington Rehab Hospital and the Davita NW Medical Center Dialysis Center.
