It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Timothy Matonak, 65, passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on September 24, 2026. Originally from Canoga Park, California (Los Angeles), he later moved to San Antonio, Texas. Timothy was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence A. Matonak and Patricia Ann (Bray) Matonak, his brother Nicholas Matonak, and his grandparents, aunts, and uncle. He is survived by his sisters and brothers: Mary King (Jimmy), Ann Marie Matonak, Daniel Matonak, Andrew Matonak, Theresa Matonak, and Anthony Matonak. He will be missed.
After graduating from Canoga Park High School, he attended Pierce Junior College and then California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture Management. Throughout his career, he concentrated on either safety or hazardous waste management and worked at Reynolds Metals, Baxter Healthcare, California State University, Los Angeles, Loyola Marymount University, Waste Management, Labor Ready, and TrueBlue.
Timothy Matonak was strong in his Catholic beliefs and believed in helping others, whether it be making 10 gallons of chili and beans for a local community kitchen, collecting donations for a cat rescue, or supporting charities like Heifer International. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus in both Canoga Park and San Antonio. He was also a Grand Knight for the Canoga Park fraternity. He had varied interests, including Dungeons and Dragons, Doctor Syn (https://romneymarshhistory.co.uk/drsyn), green energy, bison, conservation, cats, and old books in general. Tim made more than one trip to England in search of those old books that he loved. He fully supported his sister Ann Marie when she was deployed to Desert Storm (1990-1991) and Bosnia-Herzegovina (1997) and sent many delicious treats which were appreciated by all. Tim was a gifted storyteller and kept his friends and family entertained with his fictional "iron mountain" letters. He looked forward to Halloween each year and enjoyed surprising the children with non-food giveaways as well as the expected candy.
At the family's request there will be no service at this time. Timothy's final resting place will be the San Fernando Mission Catholic Cemetery, Mission Hills, California, where he joins his brother, Nicholas Matonak.
