Obituary

Theresa C. Garcia passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 23, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 90. She passed away exactly 26 years to the day after her beloved husband, Henry M. Garcia, who passed away in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her precious son, Tommy G. Garcia, her parents Nicholas and Lucille Calzoncit, brother Nicholas Calzoncit and sister, Sr. Mary Mercy of Christ O.P. and great granddaughter, Rebekah Ann Martinez.

She is survived by her children Henry Garcia (Margie), Tim Garcia (Margaret), Martie Garcia (Liz), Peggy Hernandez (Gilbert). Her grandchildren Henry Louis Garcia (Anna), Sarah Dominguez (John), Peter Garcia (Nicole), Adriana Martinez (Joshua), Nicholas Garcia, Clarissa Regino (Gregory), Maya, Hank, and Ava Hernandez. Great grandchildren Henry Thomas Bradford, Lucille Larkin, and Louis George, children of Henry Louis and Anna. Nina Josephine and John Oscar, children of Sarah and John. Henry Scott and Victoria Sarah, children of Peter and Nicole. Emma Sofia, daughter of Clarissa and Greg. She is also survived by a large and loving extended family.

Theresa was a proud 1952 graduate of Providence High School where she was a member of the school's first graduating class. She also attended St. Michael Catholic School. The Calzoncit family were members of St. Cecilia Catholic Church where she married Henry M. Garcia on August 4, 1956. She often spoke of that day fondly with memories of a reception at the Gunter Hotel followed by a mole dinner at home. Theresa was an active member of her community and a parishioner at St. Paul Catholic Church where she was an altar server, a member of the ACTS Community and participated in Bible Study. When her children attended St. Paul Catholic School she served as a room mother and den mother. Her generous spirit led her to serving as a volunteer at the Catholic Worker House and in the gift shop at Morningside at the Meadows greeting customers with her beautiful smile and gracious style. She was a founding member of the 50's Bunco Club which started in the 1950's and met monthly. A few times a year, children and grandchildren were invited to play and in December spouses were welcome at the annual Christmas gathering.

Mom and dad took many road trips with the family, but their two most memorable trips were a pilgrimage to a small village called Medjugorje, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where the Blessed Virgin Mary has been appearing and to Hawaii where they had great fun and came home with wonderful stories of their trip. She was also blessed to visit Rome and Lourdes. She had great faith and a beautiful devotion to the Blessed Mother. She prayed her rosary regularly and loved reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Her greatest joy was raising her children and doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They have great memories of their shenanigans with her as she was the consummate Nana who never said no. Trips to Sonic, Target, and Dairy Queen will also bring memories of sharing their "yummies" with their beloved Nana.

We also want to remember the wonderful caregivers who provided her with compassionate care and grace. There are no words to sufficiently thank Cynthia, Mary, and Yolanda for their loving care of our beautiful mother. We also thank the nurses from Hummingbird Hospice who held our hands as we walked this final journey of our mother's life.

We will remember Theresa as mommy, Aunt Theresa, Aunt Terry, and Nana. She was witty, loving and generous. A lover of Price is Right, Judge Judy and the Golden Girls. A breakfast lover who enjoyed her daily breakfast barbacoa tacos with her dear nephew Rocky. She loved her frequent phone calls with her niece Suzanne that always brought a smile to her face, her private concerts with Ricky and Bubba and the many visits from dear family and friends. We also want to thank our cousin Veronica for keeping watch with us as mom entered her final days. Mom loved everyone and throughout her life and especially over this last year, she was showered with great love.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
