Theresa A. Rodriguez, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and godmother, was called to her eternal rest on October 10, 2021. She was born on August 4, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas.
One of six children, Theresa, affectionately known to close family as "Aunt Nini," grew up in Christ the King parish neighborhood. Theresa was a graduate of Christ the King School and Providence High School. After graduating from high school, Theresa attended Our Lady of the Lake University, where she received her Bachelor's of Arts in Elementary Education and The University of Texas at San Antonio, where she was one of the first recipients of a Master's in Bilingual Education. As a Mexican-American professional woman, Theresa was a charter member of the Mexican-American Business and Professional Women's Club of San Antonio.
For her entire teaching career of 37 years (including her student teaching), she was a dedicated teacher at Bowie elementary in SAISD, where she maintained her devotion to 2 nd , 3 rd and 4 th graders, never wanting any administrative position, instead wanting to be inside the classroom with inner-city children, many of whom were from immigrant families.
In addition to teaching, Theresa's true devotion was to her parish family. Born in the same year as the church was built, Theresa was a life-long, active member of Christ the King Church, where she was honored with the Lumen Gentium award in 2015. The Lumen Gentium Award is bestowed upon Catholic laypeople from each parish in the Archdiocese of San Antonio who have demonstrated participation in the Catholic Church's mission to bring Christ's light to all. Theresa was a light, serving her parish over the years as a faithful Eucharistic minister, lector, member of church organizations, volunteer at the parish food pantry, organizer and leader of many choirs, religious education instructor, member of the Parish Council and fundraiser for the needs of her beloved parish.
Theresa loved traveling the world. She enjoyed many trips to Europe, pilgrimages to the Holy Land, Marian sites, and had recently made the Camino de Santiago. She also loved to sing, loved the holidays and had an incredible sense of style.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Apolinar R. and Sixta A. Rodriguez. She is survived by her siblings, Felix Rodriguez (Veronica), Maria Antonietta Berriozabal (Manuel), Louis Rodriguez (Leonor), Miguel Rodriguez, Rosie Almaguer (John) and sister-in-law, Dolores Guajardo. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and godchildren.
