Thelma Uribe Peña was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1950, and found eternal peace on Monday, October 14, 2019. Graduating from Edgewood High School, Thelma aspired to a life of learning and service. A Texan to her very core, she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and later received her Associates Certificate in Library Technology. Thelma poured her heart and soul into every child she touched, whether through her work as a Girl Scout leader, as a teacher at Edgewood Junior High, Edgewood High School and Kennedy High School, as a librarian and literacy specialist at St. Paul's Catholic School, or as a beloved mother and aunt.
With her husband of 45 years Thelma explored the world. From early in their marriage, travel was a priority, and she instilled in her children a love of exploring and finding new challenges and experiences. Thelma and Servando adventured far and wide, from Alaska to Europe, Russia to Asia. Everywhere she went, she opened her heart to people, experiences, and cultures and fondly carried with her always the people and experiences she found. More recently, she began to share these memories in her paintings.
Thelma's heart was her family. She was met in the afterlife by her parents Hector and Herminia Uribe, her father- and mother-in-law, Servando and Imelda Peña, and son-in-law Paul Rookard. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Servando Peña; children Servando, AndreAna and husband Richard, KristiAna and husband William, and AnaMaria; her sister-in-law Garizela Peña; brothers Hector and wife Irma, Lauro and wife Irma, Edgardo and wife Sandy; and sister Nioma and husband Ray and many nephews and nieces.
