Obituary

Teresa Settles Torres of Avon, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. She was born on October 15, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas to Edward and Luisa Ruiz Settles. Teresa lived a beautiful and full life of 101 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian Frank Torres (married May 31, 1941), her parents, and her siblings: Celestino, Rebecca, Edward, Faustino, and Frank. She is survived by her daughter Lillian Reed, her granddaughters: Teresa (Joe) Land and Michelle (Scott) Dobson, her great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Luke, Amelia, and Charlotte, and by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Teresa (Ted) was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She spoke often of fond memories shared with her siblings throughout childhood. Many of her surviving relatives also share heart-warming memories about Sunday dinners visiting Aunt Ted and Uncle Adrian at their home. She took great pride in her employment at Boeing Aircraft Company while living in Seattle, Washington. When she returned to San Antonio, she worked for Fort Sam Houston Army Map Service for many years. In 1986, she and her husband moved to Chicago, Illinois to be with her daughter and granddaughters and enjoy retirement. She later moved with her daughter to Avon, Indiana where she lived for 3 years until her death.

Teresa loved to be in the kitchen cooking for her family, especially her delicious Mexican food. She and her family cherished times together making tamales. Teresa enjoyed many other activities, including going to dances, playing games and puzzles, planting flowers, entertaining family and friends, and watching movies. She was so proud of the long, happy life she lived. She celebrated her 100 th birthday with family on a Disney Cruise to Bermuda. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Family recalls her sweet laugh, her kindness and generosity, her strong faith, her elegance and grace, her outfits coordinated with matching jewelry and shoes, her hard work ethic and determination to never give up, and the devoted love she gave to everyone. She has been an example to so many of how to be a strong woman, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Services will be private where she will be laid to rest at

Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery

in San Antonio, Texas with her husband.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor in the future.

The family will communicate those arrangements at a later date.
