Obituary

With deep respect and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Ted Koniares, aka "The Mad Greek", who departed this life on March 27, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas.

Born on December 12, 1960, in Woburn, Massachusetts, Ted was raised in Burlington, Massachusetts, where he developed the values of dedication, discipline, and quiet strength that would define his life. He later made his home in San Antonio, Texas, where he continued to live with purpose and integrity.

Ted proudly served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Air Force. His military career spanned decades of committed service, reflecting an unwavering devotion to duty, country, and his fellow service members. Throughout his career, he earned numerous commendations and honors, including the Air Force Commendation Medal with five devices, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five devices, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with five devices, among many others. His service stands as a testament to his character, sacrifice, and enduring patriotism.

Ted served 2 tours in Japan at Yokota AFB, 1 in Germany, and 1 year at Syracuse University. As a combat photo journalist he traveled to Korea, Bosnia, Philippines, Australia, Russia, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Beyond his military accomplishments, Ted found joy in life's simple and meaningful pleasures. He had a passion for flight simulators and flying drones, pursuits that reflected both his love of aviation and his thoughtful and curious nature. He also enjoyed computer gaming and hiking—activities that brought him both relaxation and connection to the world around him.

He is predeceased by his mother, Mary Koniares and is survived by his loving family: his father, John Koniares; his sister, Georgia Linscott; his niece, Danielle Gallo; his nephews, Maj. Craig Linscott and Peter Linscott; and his cherished great-nephew and great-nieces, Luke Gallo, Alaina Linscott, and Lily Gallo. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Ted Koniares will be remembered for his strength, his humility, and his steadfast commitment to both his country and his family. His legacy of service and quiet dignity will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

May he rest in eternal peace.
