Sister Carmelita Mulry died peacefully at her home, the Convent of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate, on August 15, 2025, after a life brimming with heart-felt service that was, at times, challenging and at other times, a source of wondrous grace.
Sister Carmelita was born on July 12, 1927, in Roscommon, County Galway, Ireland, the daughter of Tom and Kate Mulry. She spent her early years, soaking in the affection, wisdom and stories of her beloved homeland. Sister Carmelita entered the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate in 1948 and spent 67 years ministering as a teacher, principal and parish/pastoral minister in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. During her retirement years, she volunteered and rediscovered her love for words. Reflecting on her life, Sr. Carmelita wrote, "I offer gratitude to God for choosing me to spread the Gospel message and for giving me a fulfilling and happy life."
Sister Carmelita is mourned by her sister, Teresa Mulligan, and brothers, Tom and Joe Mulry, her nieces and nephews, her religious community and her friends.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 A.M on Monday, August 18, 2025, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. She will be interred in the community cemetery. Services will be held at Holy Spirit Convent, 300 Yucca Street, San Antonio, Texas.
Donations in Sister Carmelita's memory can be made to the ministries of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate.
