Sister Veronica Mitchell, SHSp died peacefully at her home, Holy Spirit Convent, in San Antonio, Texas on January 18, 2022. She was born on January 10, 1930, the daughter of Patrick and Rose Mitchell of Dereen, Ballyforan, Co. Galway, Ireland.

In 1949, Sr. Veronica was professed as a Sister of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate.  For most of her ministry years, she was a champion of Catholic Schools, having served as a teacher and an administrator in schools in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri.  Her co-workers remember that there was never a shortage of love in her classrooms.  In her later years, she trained to be an LPN and her last assignment was as the school nurse at Good Shepherd School in Garland, Texas, a school where she had first served as a teacher more than 50 years earlier. In addition to her religious community who deeply loved her, Sr. Veronica is mourned by her nieces, nephews and friends.

Because of the current circumstances surrounding COVID-19, a private Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Motherhouse.
