Sister Mary Brendan Donegan, PBVM went peacefully to her eternal reward on December 20, 2016. She was born on December 10, 1940 in Kilpatrick, Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland and was christened Brigid Donegan the next day in her home. Her parents were John Donegan and Kate Dempsey. She was the youngest of eight children: Pat (†), Eileen (†), Kathleen (†), Jack (†), Anne, Michael, and Julia Donegan (Sr. Sheila Donegan, PBVM).
Sr. Brendan attended Castlack Elementary School and Presentation Convent Secondary School. In 1958 she entered the Presentation Convent, Bandon. She came to Presentation Convent in San Antonio in 1960, and made her First Profession in 1961. Sr. Brendan received her B.A. and M.A. degrees at Incarnate Word College. For 20 years she was involved in the dedicated service of teaching at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School, St. Thomas More Catholic School, and Our Lady's Kindergarten at Presentation Convent; for 31 years she continued her dedicated service at St. Matthew Catholic Church as Pres-school Coordinator and Religious Educator of children.
Sr. Brendan had a special love for all the children she taught, and tried to keep in touch with many of them as they journeyed through life. She had a generous spirit and was very interested in the lives of people, sharing their good times and sad times. All of God's creation was very special to her. May she rest in peace.
We give special thanks to Sr. Brendan's primary doctor, Dr. Veronica Escobar, and to the staff at Christus Santa Rosa at Westover Hills. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the staff and residents at McCullough Hall Nursing Center for the loving care and compassion she received over the past four years.
