Sonia M. Torres, age 81, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the oldest of 4 children born to Ignacio and Susana Del Toro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Torres. Sonia is survived by her 4 children: Cecilia, Xavier, Maria-Cristina, and Diego, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
After completing nursing studies at John Peter Smith Hospital, Sonia worked as a Registered Nurse in Fort Worth, TX, Willimantic, CT and San Antonio, TX. After retiring from nursing, Sonia continued for 20 more years working for the retired community of the Teresian Sisters, where she developed and maintained many, many close friendships. She was actively involved at St. Leo's Parish through community service and as an extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for many years. Later she helped to form and maintain the Pro-Life Ministry at San Jose Mission Parish.
She is fondly remembered by her family for maintaining an exhaustive calendar whereby she remembered birthdays and anniversaries of her beloved family members. This, in fact, may have been her greatest expression of charity that has left an impression to be remembered always.
In her early years of marriage, she explored and refined her artistic skills through oil painting.
But above all, she loved her Catholic faith and never tired from wanting to share that love through constant acts of kindness. She is dearly loved and missed.
