Sister Mary Doloretta Madigan died peacefully at her home, the Convent of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate, on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
She was born in Askeaton, County Limerick, Ireland on September 9, 1925. On the wings of vocational grace, she boarded a converted warship in 1948 in order to join the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate. For more than six decades, she taught in schools in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The last 25 years of her teaching career were spent as a Special Education Teacher in various schools within the San Antonio Independent School District. Each of her students were precious to her and daily she calmed their anxious spirits so they could learn and prosper. After her retirement, she volunteered as a reading tutor in various Catholic schools. Sister Doloretta cherished her family, her religious community, her students and her friends. She remained deeply grateful for all of the opportunities that were presented to her during her long life.
Sister Doloretta is mourned by her brother, Fr. Martin Madigan, her sister, Thérèse, her niece and nephews, her religious community and her many friends.
