Sister Veronica Dobson, CSB, entered eternal life on Monday, December 20, 2021. She was born in Daingean, Co. Offaly, Ireland, on February 22, 1923, the oldest of six children (all of whom have predeceased her), to William and Mary Ann (Kane) Dobson.
She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Brigid (Brigidines) in Ireland, and made her profession of vows on August 24, 1944. After attending Our Lady's Teacher Training College in Dublin, she taught in Abbeyleix, Ireland. In 1953 she was one of the six pioneer Brigidines who came to San Antonio to staff St. Paul's School. At St. Paul's and St. Luke's in San Antonio, and in the Diocese of Madison, WI, she was involved as a classroom teacher and administrator for many years.
Later, she ministered to the immigrant community in Boston as the Director of the Irish Pastoral Center, for many years. On returning to San Antonio she continued as a volunteer to the immigrant and refugee community through her involvement with Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Program.
Sister Veronica is survived by nieces and nephews, relatives and friends in Ireland and England, as well as friends, co-workers, and past students in San Antonio, Wisconsin and Boston. She will also be deeply missed by her Brigidine Sisters and their Associates.
We want to extend our very sincere gratitude to the administration, nurses, and staff of Sorrento Nursing Home, and to Good Shepherd Hospice, for their compassionate and dedicated care of Veronica in recent months. We are particularly grateful also to her home caregivers, Yolanda, Mary, Laurie, Rose, Carol W. and Sheri, for their loving care of her in recent years.
