Simon R. Cruz was called by the heavenly Father on February 20, 2022 at the age of 95.

He was born in San Antonio, TX to Casimiro and Luz Resendez Cruz on February 18, 1927. He proudly served with the US Army during World War II and went on to a successful career with the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department spanning 32 years. Simon enjoyed landscaping his yard and made certain there were always flowers growing in his garden. He also enjoyed traveling, cooking out in the backyard, and exploring nearby small towns. Most of all, he loved spending time with all his family whether it was just a visit or Holiday gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Juanita, Hilario, and Ezequiel Cruz, son Simon Jr., daughter in law Crystal Cruz, and wife Jovita C. Cruz. He is survived by his children Gloria Luna (Jesse), Daniel Cruz, Christina Medel (Javier), Mary Jane Cruz, and Alejandro Benavidez, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend Eustolia Gonzalez and family.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, March 2, at 6:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, March 3, at 9:00 A.M. at St. Ann's Catholic Church.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, at 10:45 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
