SFC Leslie M. Hopper, 78, of Poteet, Texas, departed this life on April 9, 2026, entering eternal rest alongside his beloved wife of 33 years, Lynda, and his daughter, Lina June Phillips.
Born in Huntington, West Virginia, on November 6, 1947, at 2:46 a.m., Leslie was the son of the late Mary Louise Hopper. From the age of five, he was lovingly raised by his grandmother, the late Elizabeth "Gran" Hopper, who shaped much of the man he became.
Leslie graduated from Huntington East High School in 1965. In December 1967, he married his first wife, the late Hattie L. Hopper (Browning), with whom he shared two children: Christopher Michael and Jennifer Michele.
In May 1969, Leslie proudly joined the United States Army, beginning a distinguished 22‑year military career. During that service, in January 1982, he married his second wife, the late Lynda C. Hopper (Postert), with whom he shared many cherished years.
Leslie is survived by his son, Christopher Michael Hopper, who cared for him daily in his final years, and Christopher's companion, Hollyn Harris, who also assisted in his care. He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Michele Baldridge, and her husband, Bobby Baldridge, of Huntington, WV; and by his son, Christopher Ray Phillips, and his wife, Tammy Phillips, of San Antonio, TX.
Leslie's legacy continues through his seven grandchildren—Kassidy, Lesley, Chloe, Ryley, Alison, Payton, and Katherin—as well as two great‑grandsons, Peyton and Rowan, with another great‑grandchild expected in October 2026.
In his later years, Leslie shared his life with a special companion, Linda Castillo, who will miss him deeply.
Leslie dedicated his life to service—both to his country and to his family. His devotion, strength, and unwavering presence will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
It's your turn to rest now, Daddy.
"Dear" and "Mookie" are together again.
