Obituary

Ruben Revilla Nuñez, age 97, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas.  He was born on January 8, 1921 in San Antonio to Jose and Victoria (Lopez) Nuñez.

He is survived by his loving wife, Josie O. Nuñez, his sister Beatrice Vinas and his children: Carlos Nuñez (Martha), Diana Nuñez Beijbom (Lars), Susie McSwain (Richard), Magda Nuñez, Greta Huddleston, Joseph Nuñez, Terri McAngus (Lee), Angela McMahon (Robbie) and Pete Mazuca, Michael Mazuca and Mary Mazuca, 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous loved nieces and nephews; and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Evangelina Saldivar, Hector R. Nuñez, first wife Constancia (Lopez) Nuñez and son David Nuñez.

He attended Central Catholic High School, class of '39.  He attended St. Mary's University and then served as a Pilot Instructor in the Army Air Corp. during World War II.

He was president of his father's family restaurant, the Casa Blanca, then held various positions within law enforcement as a Bexar County Deputy Sheriff and a District Attorney Investigator.

He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he served as an usher.  He was also involved in several community service organizations: the Charro Association, where he was one of the founding members, L.U.L.A.C., San Antonio Council for International Visitors, and served as a Precinct Committeeman in both the King William and Alta Vista Neighborhood Associations.

He loved playing the piano and singing for family and friends.  He was known for his carefree love of life and sense of humor.  He was a skilled chess player, loved fishing and kept his mind sharp by solving his daily crossword puzzle, cryptoquip and word jumble.  He enjoyed going to casinos and was blessed to travel the world with his wife Josie.

His greatest legacy is his love of family and friends, and his greatest gift was extending hospitality to all.
