Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Roxana Maria Varela, passed away on November 16, 2024, with her family by her side.
Roxana, lovingly known as "Chana" to family and "Roxy" to close friends, was born on September 6, 1959, in Port Arthur, Texas. Along with her parents and younger sister, she moved to San Antonio in 1962. The family was then completed by the births of her three younger siblings. Roxana graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1977. She then had a flourishing 44-year career in insurance which began at USAA, and 24 years as a successful Mary Kay consultant which provided her with lots of fun and camaraderie. Roxana enjoyed traveling for work and pleasure and often made trips to the East coast with family to see her adored granddaughter. She also loved spending time with her friends, many of whom she has had since junior high, high school, at the Cherokee Breakfast Club, through Mary Kay, and those she met at her former employers. To be a friend of hers was to be a friend for life. Those whom Roxana loved and considered family were blessed with a lifetime of devotion.
Roxana was preceded in death by her parents Juan Jose and Maria Luisa Solis, and brother Richard Solis. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, 10 months, and 16 days, Juan Varela; daughter, Veronica Ramirez and partner Paul Perez; son, Andrew Ramirez and spouse Nicole; stepchildren, Maria Margarita Varela, Juan Vicente Varela and spouse Connie Vilhauer Varela, Teresa Varela-Manu and Papu Manu; sisters, Rosario Solis, Regina Solis-Torres and spouse Salvador Torres; brother, Johnny Joe Solis Jr. and spouse Tracie; sister-in-law, Bredgit Brown; grandchildren, Aysia Segura and partner Gavin South, Marcelo Ramirez-Salas, Andrew Emanuel Ramirez; step-grandchildren, Britney Rae P. and Gary Chapman, Alex Rae and Baylee Padilla, Cresencio Guadalupe, Jessica Ypma-Varela, Diego Varela, and Michael Juan Held; step-grandchildren Emory, Touca, Ace Rey, and Myrina Rae Padilla, Gary Rey P. and Noa Rey P. Chapman; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
