Obituary

On January 6, 2025, Rosie Prado Setien of San Antonio, Texas, was called by the Lord to sing and dance with the angels as they lay in eternal rest. On August 9, 1928, Rosie was given the gift of ninety-six years of life. She was one of three sisters and four brothers who have all been called by the Lord. Her sisters were Guadalupe Salinas and Theresa Espinoza. Her brothers were Martin, Isadore, Joe, and Manuel (Sammy).

Rosie was married to the love of her life, Domingo Setien II, for 62 years until his passing in 2015. Their story began when the two of them met in grade school. Over the years they grew to love and cherish each other as more than childhood friends and in their twenties endearingly started referring to each other as viejita and viejito. In 1953, they were beautifully wed and their first of five children was born the following year. Rosie's greatest passion was loving and caring for her family. She especially showed that love through endless offerings of food for anyone who entered her home and was infamous for her Spanish rice and fideo. She enjoyed finding beauty everywhere around her and loved spending time in the yard admiring the butterflies and red birds. Rosie and Domingo often traveled to his hometown of Jaumave, Tamaulipas, Mexico, where they enjoyed spending time with family and watching the pairs of guacamayas as they would fly over the mountains and land in the town's trees. For years, they spent every morning walking the park in Pecan Valley as the sun rose. The bond and life they created was full of love and support for not only each other and the family they built together, but for everyone they encountered.

Rosie's wishes were to be home with her family when the Lord, and all who have preceded her, called for her final rest. In those final days, she was surrounded by the unconditional love and strength of the family she so beautifully built. Mariachi music played in her honor. The Spurs played on the living room television. Memories were shared through tears and she can now peacefully rest with her viejito.

Rosie and Domingo are survived by their children Maria Graciela Setien, Domingo Setien III (Kathryn), Lourdes Setien (Leslie), Laura Setien-Gonzalez (Eddie), Caesar Setien (Diane, preceded in death). They are also survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild Antoinette Barber (Gus), Maria Elena Soto, Joshua Gonzalez, Gabrielle Gonzalez, Dominique Gonzalez, and Montana Rose Barber.

The family of Rosie Setien would like to say a heartfelt thank you to several people who have been loving and caring during her recent years of life. Her dear friend Claudia Fraga who not only spent time with Rosie but made life happy for her as they sang, danced, played games, and created wonderful arts and craft mementos for all to cherish. Lizbeth and Sandra who made sure she was safe, healthy, and happy. The family of Rosie extends their overwhelming gratitude for your support, love, and friendship.

Rosie was also given support by La Diferencia Hospice Group who provided an amazingly compassionate effort in comforting the family. Thank you, Sandra Bravo, for making Rosie feel special every time you came to visit.
