It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved family member, Roseann Carrola. Aunt Roseann, as she was affectionately known, was born on December 30, 1944. She entered into Heaven on July 8, 2022 at the age of 77.
Aunt Roseann's life was different than most. She was born with only one arm. Aunt Roseann did not let this hinder her life in any way. At home, she completed chores alongside her six siblings. At school, she carried her own school books, received no special treatment and still excelled. In the evenings, she played volleyball and baseball with her friends in the neighborhood.
Aunt Roseann graduated from Brackenridge High School and later took classes at San Antonio College. She was hired as a key punch operator at Kelly Air Force Base. Aunt Roseann proudly met her quotas each and every day at Kelly AFB. She never sought special treatment or asked for less work. She was determined to be treated just like everyone else.
Everyone who came in contact with Aunt Roseann knew her to be opinionated, hardworking, and fiercely independent. She loved talking to people at family gatherings, on the VIA bus, at church socials, and at senior centers she often visited. We were always amazed at her encyclopedia-like memory. Even though our family is quite large, Aunt Roseann knew all of our phone numbers, birthdays, and addresses by heart. She read medical books for fun. She was a devout Catholic and, in her final moments, found comfort in prayer. Aunt Roseann's strength and courage is something that inspires each and every one of us who knew and loved her.
Our family would like to thank all of the nurses, doctors, and caregivers who made Aunt Roseann's last days peaceful. Thank you for your kindness towards our Aunt Roseann.
