Obituary

ROSEMARIE GRANATA GRANIERI, and affectionately known as "Rose or Rosie," and especially remembered for her infamous "Hair Bun," was called to Christ to rest eternally with Him in heaven, on July 4th, 2014. Rosie was 88 years young and has been a lifelong resident of our great city. She graduated from Fox Tech High School with many other notable city and business leaders. She is survived by her loving and outstanding husband, John, "Johnny" of 67 years, daughters, Janice (Deacon Richard Hobbs), JoAnn (Ronnie Coleman), grandchildren Michelle and Lisa Hobbs, Shannan Rose (Simon Villegas), and John Walker Coleman; the pride of her life, her great-granddaughters Mikayla and Trinity; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rosie was a lifelong devoted attending member of San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church and the San Francesco di Paola Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a very active member of the Christopher Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, an Italian service organization who works in concert with the Christopher Columbus Italian Society. It was from this parent organization that Rosie was consistently acknowledged for her extreme efforts towards supporting the many charitable endeavors of both the CCIS and the CCLA. Because of her dedicated efforts, Rosie received the highest recognition from the Christopher Columbus Italian Society, for being the yearly consistent "Best Spaghetti Dinner Ticket Sales-Person." Because of her dedication to children, Rosie was also a highly honored retiree from the S.A.I.S.D. elementary school system where she served at the Ira Ogden Elementary School for over eighteen years. Her dedication to children was not only in the academic world but also in the area of Music and Dance. Thus because of her own love for dancing, she became the founding organizer of the Italian Dancers, who performed native Italian Cultural dances at various civic gatherings, especially at the annually held "Italian Food-Fest" and the annual "Texas Folklife Festival." Rosie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Sam and Michelina Granata, her brothers, Gabriel S. Granato, Peter J. Granato, Sam Granata, (Prior SAT. City Manager), sisters-in-law, Martha Lee Granato, Leola Granato Truitt, Florence Granata, Annie Fabrizzio, Mary Granieri Mendez; brothers-in-law, Anthony Granieri, Ernest Granieri, Frank Granieri and Frank Fabrizzio. Rosie's final commendation of life will be celebrated with a Rosary on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. at The Angelus Funeral Home. The Mass of Resurrection will be con-celebrated on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. We are honored to have the following serving as Pallbearers: Johnny Coleman, Joel Ortiz, Sammy Granata, Frankie Granieri, Blas Pizzi, Anthony Pizzi, Layne Granata, and Simon Villegas. The family wishes to express its very special thanks to Papa (Johnny), Janice and JoAnn for their unselfish daily caregiving, the grandchildren, Michelle, Shannan-Rose, Lisa, and John Walker. Also, we offer our thanks to the Staff of the TEXSAN Heart Hospital and to VITAS Hospice Care for their individual and combined loving dedication and expertise in their caring for Rosie. We especially extend our heartfelt thanks to all our family and friends who have been such wonderful support to us all during this time.
