Rose Ann Garcia Johnston, 76, of San Antonio, TX passed away peacefully at her home in San Antonio surrounded by family on December 10, 2024.

She was born in San Antonio on September 16, 1948 to Paul and Georgie Garcia. Rose Ann spent all her school years in San Antonio before graduating from Fox Tech High School in 1966. Rose Ann then worked at Fort Sam Houston as a civilian for several years. She was Miss Brooke Army Medical Center in 1971. She moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1979 and spent the rest of her career at the Veterans Administration Hospital until her retirement in 2015. She then returned home to San Antonio and spent her time enjoying the company of friends, family and her grandchildren.

While at Fort Sam, Rose Ann met Darrel in 1971 and they were married in August of 1972. Rose Ann and Darrel dedicated their life to raising 3 children: Chris, Brian, and Lisa.

Rose Ann treasured her time with her grandkids. Grateful for all the love and guidance grandma provided are her grandchildren: Brittney, Colton, Chanie, Riley, Tyler, Layne, Dresden and Amelia; great-grand son Jorah and soon a great-grand daughter coming in February.

Everyone who knew Rose Ann knew how much she loved cooking, baking, and sewing. Her Mexican recipes were second to none.  Incredible desserts were also a favorite treat enjoyed by her family.

Rose Ann also believed in kindness to others. She did volunteer work at her kid's elementary schools, her church, and mentoring young teens. Rose Ann was not only a fierce advocate for her family but also the Hispanic community in Sioux Falls. One way she showed this was by being an interpreter for Spanish speaking people in Sioux Falls whenever the need would arise.

Rose Ann was preceded in death by her father, Paul, mother, Georgie, and daughter in law, Elizabeth. Rose Ann is survived by her brother Paul Jr, husband Darrel, and their 3 children, Chris, Brian & Lisa.

A Viewing for Rose Ann will take place at Angelus Funeral Home (1119 N Saint Mary's Street) in San Antonio on December 14, 2024 at 1PM.
