Rosario Rivas passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, after a six-month battle with pneumonia. Born in Corpus Christi, TX on January 23rd, 1939, Rosie was one of a kind. Her love for her family, friends and Catholic faith was inspiring.
Rosie is survived by her daughter, Joanna Cazier, son Mark Cazier (Melanie) and granddaughter, Maren, as well as nephews Ross (Rachel) Rivas and Raymond Rivas, their families and sister-in-law, Theresa Rivas. She is proceeded in death by her parents and brother, Rosendo Rivas II.
Rosie graduated from Ray Miller High School in 1958, Texas A&I in Kingsville, TX with a Bachelor of Science in 1962 and received a master's degree in education from Corpus Christi State University in 1985. Rosie loved her South Texas roots and moved to San Antonio in 1990 and became been a member of Little Flower Chapel where she attended mass weekly.
Rosie spent her life caring for others and leading by example. As a schoolteacher for more than thirty years, she taught thousands of children in Public and Private schools. Rosie not only taught academics, but she also taught the golden rules which raised generations of children.
Memories of her life as a child were often shared around the dinner table. Rosie always knew what was going on with all her family members and friends. Her regular phone calls and visits kept her in touch with loved ones and if you wanted to know what was going on with anyone you could call Rosie. Her quick wit and dry humor kept us in stitches, often at the most unexpected times.
After retiring from teaching her second chapter of caring for others began with the St. Vincent de Paul Society where she cared for the poor. Never one to meet a stranger, she often learned the life stories of those she served and spoke of them with love and compassion.
Rosie walked into a room and observed everything about it, she never missed the chance to see beauty in her surroundings, indoors and outside. She loved flowers and art, especially those by Brother Cletus and has one of his paintings that she cherished. Always a lady, she never left the house without being dressed in beautiful colors with her hair and makeup perfectly done. She was strong, brave, smart and knew all the current events no matter what the subject and read the newspaper cover to cover every day while enjoying many cups of coffee with lots of cream.
Rosie (Lita) loved her beautiful granddaughter Maren, whom she lovingly called Mijita and thankfully passed down her keen observation and impressive people skills.
Never wanting to miss any fun, Rosie loved to meet family and friends for breakfast or lunch on the weekends. Her phone calls were priceless, always checking in where she left off last time. She was the matriarch of her family, respectful and always present when you needed her and if you needed a prayer, you knew who to call.
We would like to thank all the incredible nurses and care takers who so lovingly cared for our mom over the last six months, especially Maddie at Texsan Methodist, who is a true angel.
