Obituary

Rosalie Paletta Rizzo, age 93, passed away Tuesday, December 22nd.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Rizzo, parents John and Josephine Paletta, and sisters Vincenza (Vee) Pantusa and Mary Grace Barberio. She grew up on Martin Street near San Francesco di Paola Church and Columbus Hall with her cousins and her friends and enjoyed a lifetime of memories associated with her family and her faith.
After high school graduation she worked at Joskes, and then during wartime, at the young age of 21, she became a supervisor over a large department at Kelly AFB.  She married the boy across the street; both sets of parents came from Spezzano de la Sila in Southern Italy.  She made a special spiritual promise to the Blessed Mother to bring her husband back from war and she fulfilled that promise throughout her life.
She served as President of the Altar and Rosary Society at her church, took care of the famous Church Spaghetti dinner tickets for over 20 years, and began the annual Day of Recollection. After her husband passed away, she volunteered at the San Antonio Public Library, served as an Election official, and devoted her time and love to her family.  She and her beloved "Ernie" loved to waltz and they are finally reunited over 30 years after his death.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Rizzo Kohnen (Rich), Jo Ann Rizzo Vande Hey (Dale), grandchildren: Jennifer Kohnen Kirsch (Paul), Ryan Kohnen (Lacey), Allison and Lindsey Vande Hey and great-grandchildren, Elisabeth Rose and William Kirsch, Cole and Kylie Kohnen,  brothers-in-law, Louis Pantusa and Ernest Barberio, and sister-in-law, Eleanor Rizzo. She was a beautiful person in and out, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she was so precious and dear to all of us, she will be forever missed.
