Obituary

Robert O. Ortega

December 18, 1960 - August 20, 2018

Our beloved, Robert O. Ortega, went to be with our Lord on August 20th, 2018 at the age of 57 at home in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by his family and friends. Robert had a tremendous positive outlook on life; he never gave up hope during his hardships.

He was an amazing husband to his bride of 30 years Elizabeth Avalos- Ortega, and father to his two children Ricardo J. Ortega and Alicia M. Ortega. He is survived also by his mother, Paula Ortega, his sister Micky Ortega (Dolores Yante), his brothers Bennie Ortega, David Ortega (Blanca) and Ruben Ortega. Along with his extended family, his in law's, Joe and Leticia Shafer, Albert and Irma Perez, Karl and Norma Stegman, Sylvia Perez, David Avalos as well as numerous nephews and nieces and his four-legged love Marley. He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Ortega.

Robert was born and raised in San Antonio and was a member of the 1979 graduating class of Thomas Jefferson High School. He was an accomplished athlete having learned his skills from his family. He then spent his life in the Hospitality/ Transportation business, which opened the door to him meeting and making numerous lifelong friends to include many professional athletes, business leaders and colleagues. Robert had an outgoing personality and a smile for everyone, there were no strangers in his world but simply more friends to be made. Robert was loved by so many and touched many lives with his friendships. An avid sports fan he had a keen sense of knowledge knowing up to the minute scores, news, trades and records/stats.

He was a faithful servant of God, a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church A.C.T.S men's group. He was a true believer in Christ whom many turned to in time of need or encouragement as his words of scripture and prayers comforted and helped so many. His faith shined thru him and we are comforted in knowing he is now with his true Savior Jesus Christ.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Elizabeth Bowhay who truly went above and beyond for Robert and her nursing/clinical staff at CTRC/UT Health for their Amazing care for him, Orenda Hospice to include Dr. P. Garcia, and his nursing staff; Tan, Ashley and Bobby for their kindness and dedication to Robert during his battle with Leukemia. Along with the many wonderful friends and relatives for their visits of support, gifts of food, flowers and especially their encouraging words of love and concern.

He will be missed by all
