Robert was a beloved hometown man from Eagle Pass, Texas and after many chapters in his life, ended up in Austin, Texas with his wife Martha. Robert's final episode in his life was bombarded by a barrage of health issues that manifested from an exposure to Agent Orange acquired while serving a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1967 with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He received two Purple Heart Medals from injuries for which he sustained while in combat. He in fact, still had shrapnel embedded in the back of his head and bullet fragments in his legs from battles.
Despite the fierce battles he endured, Robert was a very amiable person who talked to anyone and everyone. He made friends everywhere he went. He had friends from Eagle Pass from childhood, his time in the military, and from his journeys from coast to coast.
Robert was a romantic. He played the guitar, loved to sing, and wrote music. He was a very giving person and wanted people he came across to feel loved. Robert's role on this Earth was as a father, grandfather, husband, friend, and patriotic military hero.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, daughter Bobbie Jo from Laredo, TX, sisters Rosario Gonzalez and Beatrice Flores from Eagle Pass, TX, many grandchildren, and stepchildren. We will deeply miss him. He was God's contribution to making this planet a more colorful place.
