Obituary

ROBERT ANTHONY "BOBBY" "BOB"
DE LA CRUZ

Robert De La Cruz born November 29, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the age of 72 after a 20 year renal cancer battle. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, & friend. His strength & desire to live was beyond measure.

Bob graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1964, joined the Navy & then returned & graduated from San Antonio College. He worked for Southwestern Bell telephone for 20 years. During those years the company moved Bob & family to Laredo, Eagle Pass and Uvalde before bringing them back to their hometown of San Antonio. A source of pride for him was earning his Associates Degree while working full time and putting three daughters through Catholic Schools.

After his retirement he followed his entrepreneurial spirit & earned his real estate license, invested in real estate, & eventually opened his first insurance office & subsequently a second, both called De La Cruz & Associates. Bob really enjoyed being his own boss and being involved in the insurance community. He raised money for various charities & was President for the SA Chapter of Automobile Insurance Agents of TX 2004-2005.

As a hobby he repaired & painted cars with his brother. He also loved attending dances & Oyster Bake with his wife, Anna, his brother & parents. His true passion was checking out all the newest neighborhood taquerias. He had a love for gadgets, electronics & sales, he never missed a bargain.

We will truly miss Bob's forgiving spirit, ability to see the good in everyone, his love for family & his generosity & mindful words. Though he was a man of few words; the words he did speak either drove home his point or caused quite a chuckle.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Belia & Alfred De La Cruz. He is survived by his devoted loving wife Anna Marie Garcia De La Cruz, daughters: Deborah De La Cruz – Riebe (Neal), Cynthia De La Cruz (Jeremiah Flores), Catherine De La Cruz; grandchildren: Megan & Alex Riebe; brother Roland De La Cruz (Belinda) & sister Dorothy Choice; nieces & nephews: Jared Garcia (Nicole), Marissa Garcia White (Eric), Matthew & Elizabeth Garcia, Alfred De La Cruz (Lisa), Robert De La Cruz (Maribel), Roland De La Cruz (Denise), Christopher De La Cruz, & Miranda Choice.
