Obituary

On Friday, June 21, 2024, Richard (Rick) Gerard Casiano, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend & colleague, was called home by our Heavenly Father at the age of 65.  Our Lord granted Rick's heartfelt wish to enter eternal peace at home surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and many loving family members after a valiant fight with cancer.

Rick was born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 14, 1959, to his parents, Felix and Ernestine Casiano. He was a lifelong member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church where he spent his childhood, teenage, and adult years involved in many parish activities.  In 1977, Rick graduated from Highlands High School.

In February 1975, Rick met the love of his life, Raquel. On June 9, 1979, Rick and Raquel married and were blessed with two wonderful children, Richard Gerard and Adrianna Marie.  Rick and Raquel were thrilled when their son married Paula and were blessed with their most treasured granddaughters, Karina Marie and Elena Frances.

Rick and Raquel were not only united in their love of God and each other, but also, united in their love of supporting their children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews and many cherished family friends throughout their events.   Rick was greatly loved by his in-laws, Ernesto and Modesta Villarreal.  He was always by his father-in-law's side barbecuing brisket sandwiches at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church festivals and fundraisers at Mission County Park.  Rick fully supported his children by being actively involved in St. Margaret Mary's religious celebrations/school activities/fundraisers, CYO as both coach and board member, Men's Club as member and officer, St. Gerard High School religious celebrations/activities/fundraisers, sporting events, and maintenance of football field by following all of Coach George Pasterchick's instructions.  Rick loved hosting parties and celebrations at home which included pony rides, piñatas, waterslides, and hayrides.

Rick was always willing to attend and support his nieces'/nephews' parties, fundraisers and other special events by transporting and setting up tables, chairs, canopies, and cooling equipment.  Rick greatly cherished the times he spent with family, especially his nieces/nephews while camping/tubing on the river, playing on the beach, going to movies (like "Rocky"), etc.  Rick enjoyed being invited to all religious, school, sporting and special events of his great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.  Rick created many amazing memories that are truly treasured by all his loving families.

Rick worked in the drafting and design field for several years.  Later in his career, Rick worked almost twenty-five years as a Capital Projects Officer with the City of San Antonio.  He loved working with city council district staff, city employees, public work agencies/entities, and construction companies.  However, he was greatly devoted to serving the city's residents by coordinating/conducting public meetings, maintenance/repair projects, and resolving individual constituents' conflicts and any related concerns. Due of Rick's giving nature, positive attitude, social traits and devotion to serve others, he always said that working for the City of San Antonio "did not feel like work".

Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Ernestine Casiano, sister-in-law, Irene Casiano, and special nephew, Jason Martinez.  Rick is survived by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren, siblings Ernestine Vargas, Joe Casiano (Cristina), Ramiro Casiano, Alice Palacio (Tony), sisters-in-law, Ernestine Villarreal, Virginia Martinez (Carlos), Diana Galvan (Manuel), honorary brother, Tony De La O (Mary), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, great-great-nieces/nephews and cousins.

On behalf of his wife, children and granddaughters, they lovingly thank Father Jimmy Drennan who celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows while in the hospital. His family also extends their heartfelt love and thanks to our St. Margaret Mary families/ministries and City of San Antonio co-workers for all their faith-filled prayers, love, text messages and enormous support of comfort, strength and peace.  Special thanks to the dedicated care given by Dr. Ronald Drengler and The Start Center staff, medical staff at the Methodist Hospital, and the wonderful/comforting staff of Trinity Hospice.

"Rick, our love, you have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, and you have kept an incredible Faith.  We treasure your final lesson of trusting in our Lord and fully accepting the Divine will of God, our Almighty Father and Creator. While you are physically not there, your presence will always be felt at our events, and you will never be forgotten. Our Lord will wipe away every tear from our eyes as we rejoice that death is no more and you live in God's eternal embrace and forever in our hearts. Until we meet again, you are with us always."
