Obituary

Richard Robles Castillo, 87 years old, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2019, in his home surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Isabel Ofelia Castillo; daughters, Sylvia Ann Castillo (Rudy Castillo) and Norma Castillo Hodge (Richard Hodge); and three grandchildren, Celeste Nicole Castillo, Annette Marie Castillo, and Shaun Phillip Hodge and numerous nephews and nieces.

Richard was born on June 22, 1931 to Herminia Robles Castillo and Jesus Castillo, and was one of five children. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, brothers, and his daughter, Anna Marie Castillo.

He graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1949 and then proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 in the Korean War as a Sergeant 1 st Class in the 7 th Medical Battalion Division.  He worked primarily in the electronics division at Kelly Air Force Base from 1952 to 1989, retiring after 37 years of service. In his spare time, he also worked as a Sports Official with the Southwest Baseball Umpire Association and the Southwest Football Officials Association (Division 1) for 34 years.  After retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher for San Antonio Independent School District. He was a member of the St. Luke's Knights of Columbus 10240 division.

Richard loved a good taco and menudo and was always ready to go out for a meal.  Dairy Queen was one of his favorite go to places for ice cream.  He loved traveling on vacations with family and friends.  You could always find him watching a sports game (all sports) on television. He was proud of his grandchildren, the lights' of his life, and went to all their events.  His unconditional love for his family is a most cherished memory that we will keep close to our hearts.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the extended family and friends who have provided prayers and support during this time. They would also like to thank the River City Hospice staff for their support and wonderful care they gave, especially Joyce Garcia, CNA and Sierra Moses, RN.
