Richard Araujo entered eternal rest on November 3rd, 2024. He was preceded in death, by his parents Jose and Benicia Araujo, his brothers, Joe and George Araujo, his nephews, John, Javier and Rudy Araujo. He leaves behind his beloved Wife of 53 years Phyllis, his five children Ricardo with wife Rozeanne, Felisa with husband Julio and Joseph with wife Elida, Marcos, Roxanne along with 8 grandchildren.
Richard Araujo was a man of many words. He was boisterous and proud. He loved music and family gatherings. He was full of stories and recollections of a long life lived in the Westside of San Antonio. Richard was a self-published author of poetry and short writings, his thoughts created vivid memories for all who read his works. He had the uncanny ability to prioritize the power of words and knowledge. He loved to talk about his memories of his childhood and all his adventures as a teenager. He was a Navy Veteran and a Fox Tech Buffalo. He spoke fondly of his travels and experiences.
Richard was a noteworthy family man. He was married for 53 years to Phyllis. In his last moments, he recalled the moment they met. He told her, she was his "Werinchey" and that he loved her more than life itself. The two of them made love look easy. They were soul mates, and they lived for each other.
Richard was not only a dedicated husband but also an exemplary and proud father of three biological children, Ricardo, Felisa and Joseph and two adopted children, Roxanne and Marcos. His children were his life. He taught, coached, mentored and loved his children. He was there for every game, every competition and every special moment. His children are proud of the fact that they are who they are today because of all that he did to help mold them into their best selves. He was their biggest supporter and made it clear he loved them with all his heart.
Richard strived to make sure all his family knew that he loved them and was always there to support them. His heart was full when it came to his grandchildren, and he was the exceptional grandpa. Like he did for his children, he became the first teacher and mentor to all his grandchildren. He always voiced how proud he was of all of them and was always there for each of them. His grandchildren are Benesia, Alena, Janelle, Ethan, Julian, Joseph, Belle and Sophie. They are his pride and joy. Each one with their own beloved nicknames.
Richard was a special brother who had seven brothers and sisters. His brothers are Joe, George, Ruben and Martin Araujo. His sisters are Maria Guadalupe Araujo, Rosemary Iracheta and Joan Coy. He had numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved. He loved each of his brothers and sisters and always wished them all the happiness that life could give them. He wanted them to be loved and to feel the love he had for them and each other.
Richard had cousins, Eleanor, Marty, and Janie, that he loved with all his heart. The Cuellar cousins, The Mariachi and the many others which he was so fond of and treasured. He had many wonderful memories and was extremely proud of his extended family.
Though there are many words to describe the person Richard was, in his own words and up until his last breath he believed he was a "Rut-Gut Indian" who survived colon cancer, stroke and two heart attacks. In the end his colorful description that his "Chicken-Shit" heart broke down, would sum up his colorful take on life. However, in the end Richard was at peace with it and left surrounded by his wife and children.
His love and spirit will live on through all his family and friends. He was an extraordinary man, and we thank God for all the memories that will live on through his children, grandchildren and future great grandchildren.
