Obituary

Ricardo "Rich" Tomás Pérez, beloved son, brother, and uncle, was called home by his Lord on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10, 2026, at the age of 67. He passed peacefully and was surrounded by loved ones.

Rich was born in Victoria de las Tunas, Oriente, Cuba. He immigrated to the United States with his parents and five siblings in 1965 at the age of six. He stood out amongst his siblings with his blonde hair and luminous dark brown eyes. As a toddler he suffered epilepsy and was later diagnosed with a myriad of psychiatric disorders. Despite his challenges, Rich thrived with Special Education services and graduated from Marshall High School.

Rich loved classic rock music, especially Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, and The Beatles. He was an avid sports fan, loved the San Antonio Spurs, and excelled at arts and crafts. He was very proud of his family, particularly his siblings, nieces and nephews, and was known to brag to others about their accomplishments. Rich had an amazing memory for dates and sports statistics and never missed a loved one's birthday. He had a sweet disposition and a big heart.

Rich was a beloved member of the Pérez family. Rich's parents were devoted to him throughout his childhood and adulthood and advocated for his care at every turn. They were a living example of the Christian values of compassion and service. Rich's presence in our lives served to deepen our faith and taught us that love means being there for one another during good and bad times alike. He brought out the very best in us. We were blessed to have had him in our family and will miss him dearly, but rejoice that he is now made whole and is truly at peace.

Rich is survived by his 96 year old mother, Dr. Yolanda Sosa Pérez; his five siblings: Jose Rafael (Joan), Yolanda "Yoly" Maria, Rafael Antonio (Monica), Julian Victor (Celia), and Eduardo Melchor; and his nieces and nephews: Alexander, Gabriella, Taylor, Leah, Briana, Kyler, Xochitl and Carlo. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Jose R. Pérez; his sister, Lourdes Maria; and his grandparents, Ricardo, Petra, Rafael, and Candita.

The Pérez family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Windsor Mission Oaks, who cared for Rich during the last nine and a half years of his life with compassion and dedication. We will be eternally grateful.
