Obituary

Rebecca Morales Cazares

September 23, 1937 – December 24, 2025

Rebecca was born in Galveston, Texas to parents, Jacobo Cazares and Severina Morales Cazares on the 23 of September, 1937.  She passed away early in the morning on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 of congestive heart failure.  Rebecca never married, but remained very devoted to her mother, Severina Morales Cazares; they were life-long companions.

Rebecca is survived by her relatives, Raul Garza, Andrea Rodriguez, Elida Morales, Florentina Morales, Rachel Lopez (Alejandro Lopez), Martha Diaz, Camilo Morales (Martha), Joe Morales (Leticia), Mary Helen Morales (Babette), Pedro Morales, Carlos Morales, Timoteo Morales Jr., Angela Hernandez-Allen and many nieces and nephews.

Rebecca's education started in Galveston Texas.  She graduated from Ursaline Academy High School, then went on to Houston where she received her bachelor's degree in Education from the University of St. Thomas.  After graduating from University of St. Thomas, she worked on obtaining a master's degree and started her studies at the University of Houston then went on to The University of Texas at Austin, but her education was then put on-hold in order to care for her aging mother.

Rebecca was an incredibly independent woman.  She was also a strong advocate for the rights of women and Native American Indians.  In her entire career, Rebecca served as an educator.  She was presented an award as Houston ISD's Outstanding Young Educator of 1971.  Her motto she used in education for children most difficult to love was, "Control your temper and love the child."  She consistently gave all her energy and effort to uplift the spirit of her students and encourage them to improve their skills through study and hard work.  Even after school hours, Rebecca would detour from going home to visit the parents of troubled child to help encourage them to strive harder to achieve their goals in life.  With the introduction of new teaching methods and electronics devices, Rebecca did not quite believe in these new approaches, but instead believed the "personal approach" leads to better results in teaching children.  On her final years in education, Rebecca was promoted to the position of Principal.

Rebecca was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas.  She was a devout Catholic.
