Raul Solis, Sr. born May 17, 1933 passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Aurora Solis, brothers Juan Francisco Solis and Ernesto Solis, sister Sofia San Miguel Gonzalez, wife Gloria Luna Solis and son David Robert Solis.
He is survived by children Raul Jr (Gerri), Raquel San Martin (Roberto), Diana Rivas (Ernest) and Javier (Veronica), 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, sisters Aurora Solis and Luz Luna, brothers Jose Luis Solis (Laura) and Rene Solis (Nena) and many nephews and nieces.
As a child he developed a hard work ethic in the migrant fields. Raul Sr. graduated from Laredo Martin high school. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged as Master Sargent after serving four years of active duty. He wasted no time and married his high school sweet heart Gloria Luna. They were blessed to celebrate 60 years of marriage.
Working days and going to college at night he earned a Bachelors degree from St. Mary's University. Mom shared the story of Dad coming home from work, grabbing a quick dinner, going to night school then returning home to take the washed clothes to the laundromat where he would study while the clothes were drying.
Raul Sr. worked for 38 years at Kelly AFB retiring as a Director of Logistics. Many overseas trips were shared with his beloved wife as they experienced foreign cultures and beautiful countries.
Our Dad created a legacy that will carry forth for generations, a legacy of unwavering unconditional love. He loved our Mother and cared and pampered her even in his late stages of dementia. His calm and even-tempered demeanor reassured us and calmed us as children and even through adulthood. His generosity reassured us that anything we needed and asked of him, he would find a way to provide. It has been an amazing gift to have parents which give that feeling of comfort and security.
This is a story of love that lives the gospel, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: you shall love your neighbor as yourself". Mark 12:30
Our Father lived the gospel by the way he lived his life, unselfishly, generously and with abundant love for all.
