Obituary

Raul Mena, age 59, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. His wife and daughters were by his side. With heavy hearts they returned a beloved husband and father back to GOD. With tears of joy they are comforted knowing that he is no longer in pain.

Raul was preceded in death by his parents: Aldolfo and Isabel Mena; brothers: Alfred and Arnold Castro; sister: Helen Duran. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Mena, daughters: Megan Alexis Mena and Lorena Alissa Mena; granddaughters: Diore Lively Plante and Alora Brooke Plante; mother in-law, Juanita Garcia; sisters: Norma (Daniel) Rodriguez, Mary Lou (Gonzalo) Gonzales, Mercedes (Sam) Carvajal; brother: Robert Castro, and a host of family and friends.

Raul was a kind, loving, and humble man. He loved to go fishing and spend time with his family. He loved working on art and drawing projects and was an avid SPURS fan. He was a proud 1983 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School – Go Voks! He was an active member of the reunion planning committee. The family would like to thank his reunion friends for loving him.

Raul had been employed with the City of San Antonio Traffic Operations Department for 29 years. Along the way he made so many friends that he was grateful for. The family would like to thank his work family for their continuous love and support. Your acts of kindness will never be forgotten.

Raul graduated from Texas State University. This was such an accomplishment for him. He wanted to do this not only for himself, but to serve as an example to his daughters that they too could do it. What many people do not know is that he earned his degree while working full-time and going to renal dialysis three times a week. This is an example of determination.

Finally, the family would like to thank South Texas Renal Care – Westover Hills where he had been a patient for 10 years. Raul and his family appreciated your care and kindness.

Raul was so thankful for his family. His daughters, Megan and Lorena were the sparkle in his eyes. He loved them SO much and always wanted them to feel loved. "I am proud of my girls" is what he would say. His granddaughters, Diore and Alora brought a smile to his face and so much laughter into his life. They were his Ladybug and his Tweety bird. Finally, there was Mary, his wife. So many times, he would tell her, "You are the love of my life." Their saying to each other was, "thank you for loving me." He leaves her behind with so many memories. Above all, he put his faith in GOD. If this is GOD's will, then we will accept it.
