Obituary

Ramona Aranda Lozano, 101, of San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord on 22 January 2025. She was born on 31 August 1923, in Lockhart, Texas to Juan and Reyes (Silos) Aranda.

As a child Ramona loved school and especially enjoyed reading. Her family moved to San Antonio during the Great Depression when she was just a teenager. The times were very hard and, in order to help support her family, Ramona had to stop going to school and began working as a seamstress making uniforms for the U.S. military. Her joy in life as a teenager, after working hard all week, was dressing up and going out with her girlfriends to dances at the Menger Hotel.

In 1946, Ramona married Johnny C. Lozano, who had recently returned from air combat in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy in World War II. Ramona worked for several years with Alling Blueprinting Service and Solo Serve Nursery. Johnny would eventually return to active duty with the U.S. Army and go on to complete a long and distinguished military career. Ramona was a faithful military spouse, loving mother of three and wonderful homemaker. Accompanying her husband on military assignments around the world, she worked a variety of jobs from Bank Teller with Bank of America in San Francisco, to Sales Associate at the Wuerzburg, Germany Commissary, to Cashier at Montgomery Wards (McCreless Shopping Center) in San Antonio. Ramona, husband and children returned to San Antonio in 1966 and eventually she and Johnny retired here.

At the age of 66, Ramona took on the daunting challenge of obtaining her GED not because she needed it, but because of her love for school and an education that had been cut short. She proudly wore a Cap and Gown to her graduation at MacArthur High School in 1989, which coincidently was the same year two of her grandchildren also graduated from High School!

She loved playing Bunco with friends, Pinochle and Canasta with family, doing crossword puzzles and reading the newspaper (front to back). She took great pleasure in traveling to see her children and grandchildren wherever they might be. It wasn't unusual for Ramona and Johnny to hop on a flight to Spain, Germany the Philippines, Japan or Hawaii to spend 30 days or more with family.

Ramona was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Johnny Charles Lozano; daughter, Cynthia Irene Lozano; grandson, Christopher Lozano; her parents; her brothers, Casimiro, Miguel and Salvador; and her sister Daria. Ramona is survived by her children, Johnny Lozano Jr. (Maria), Sylvia Rodela and Alfred Lozano Sr. (Martha); grandchildren, Johnny Lozano III (Kay), Michael Rodela, Annjanette Garcia (Cesar), Alfred Lozano Jr. (April) and Jennifer Stewart (Jake); four great-grandchildren and three great-great-granddaughters.
