Obituary

Phillip Kent Aguirri, Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and favorite Uncle of many, rose to be with our Lord, July 09, 2021 at the age of 73. Affectionately known as "Kenny" to all who knew him, "Popo" to his grandchildren and "Babe" to his loving wife Gilda, he was the cornerstone of his family and friends.

Phillip was born September 6 th , 1947 at Lackland AFB to Phillip and Rachel M. (Perryman) Aguirri. He lived in San Antonio, TX, where he attended the inaugural year at John F. Kennedy H.S. before moving to Snyder, Oklahoma in 1964. He played football for the Cyclones while attending Snyder H.S., and was part of the graduating class of 1966.

Phillip was a Vietnam Veteran, serving active-duty military in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1970 and Reserves 1970 to 1972. Based at Naval Air Station Miramar, "Fightertown USA" and home of the Navy's Strike Fighter Tactics Program, also known as TOP GUN. He was dispatched to Korea while serving four tours of duty in Vietnam as an Airman (Airdale) E3 Fighter Squadron 151 aboard the USS Coral Sea, "The Ageless Warrior." His decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. After the Navy, he worked in Civil Service at the Department of Housing Urban and Development and retired after 42 years. He was an active member of VFW Post 76, San Antonio TX and a member of the American Legion.

Kenny had extraordinary luck with meeting a gorgeous young lady from San Antonio, TX, Gilda Martinez. He was smitten and determined in his pursuit and courtship of Gilda. Kenny and Gilda would marry at their church, Immaculate Heart of Mary, in the spring of 1972 and start a love story which would include their three beloved children, Yvette, Adrian and Jason Aguirri and grow into a family of 19.

Kenny embraced life, was a giving spirit and would go out of his way to help those in need. He looked after his family and friends, and they all knew that they could count on Kenny. He loved listening to his "Oldies but Goodies," sharing stories with friends and Navy comrades, and playing dominos with "Pop" (father-in-law) was a favorite past time. He enjoyed his grandkids immensely and had a passion for "leading" his beautiful bride Gilda around the dance floor.

Phillip Kent Aguirri, a provider, loving husband, father and grandfather, uncle and the best friend whenever someone needed a friend. He is The Man. The Myth. The Legend. He will continue to be a blessing to us all.
