With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of our beloved Petra O. Martinez, who left this world surrounded by love on February 21, 2026 at the age of 97.
A devoted parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and proud member of the Guadalupanas, Petra's faith guided her through nearly a century of life. She was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Rosendo, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage filled with partnership, resilience, and quiet strength. Together they raised two sons, Edward and Leroy.
Petra's life was rich not only in years, but in friendships. Neighbors and fellow parishioners became lifelong companions. She worked many jobs throughout her life before retiring from the Baptist Health System, always carrying herself with determination and grace.
In her later years, she embraced joy wholeheartedly. She loved line dancing, walking, attending social gatherings with friends, and cheering passionately for the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. Her home was often filled with the sounds of Mexican novelas, music, and variety shows celebrating song and dance. She especially loved everything about Fiesta—the parades, NIOSA, and King William Fair— celebrating her culture and community with pride.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rosendo Martinez; her mother, Estella Hernandez; and step father, Mike Hernandez.
She leaves behind a family who will carry her memory forward: her son, Edward O. Martinez, and his wife, Maria de Los Angeles, and their daughter, Angelis Martinez; her son, Leroy O. Martinez, and his wife, Esther, along with their daughter, Danielle Martin, and her children, Sophia and Olivia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Socorro (Coco) Mendez Biscisnais, Marisol Hernandez, Julia Trevino, Blanca Salas, Suncrest Hospice and Ms. Nancy Zavala RN for the kindness, compassion, and loving care they provided to Petra.
