Obituary

Peter Joe Wiatrek, 79, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2022, with his loving wife of 49 years by his side.  Pete was born on April 8, 1942, in Falls City, Texas. He was the fourth of seven children born to Louis and Magdalen Wiatrek. He grew up on the family farm in the South Texas countryside.  As a young boy, Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, and living off the land.  In 1973, Pete married Mary Frances Burns and they went on to have their first and only child, Stephanie Ann, in 1974.

Pete worked as a glass glazier for East End Glass and later Northeast Glass Company for over 30 years until he retired in 2000. He was a skilled craftsman and could cut a mirror into just about anything you'd want, including the great state of Texas!

As Pete and Mary built their life together, Pete worked hard to provide for his family but still had time to fully enjoy life. On the weekends he would take his family to the "farm" in Falls City, Texas where he would work all day then visit his Momma before heading back to San Antonio.  He raised a few cattle over the years, planted huge fruitful gardens, hunted dove and rabbit, barbequed delicious meals, and taught his daughter to fish and love the outdoors. When his grandchildren were born, he was a devoted grandfather.  Known as Pawpaw, he would spend hours outside in the backyard with Taylor, Noah, and Emmalyn passing on his wisdom and love of nature.  He enjoyed watching them play in the sprinkler, build obstacle courses, and play with the dogs.

As he grew older he spent time in his garden, watched his Westerns, and continued to fry his famous fish and potatoes late at night.  Everyone who knew Pete knew that he was an extremely kind, loving, gentle, and peaceful person and that he loved his family very much.

Pete was preceded in death by both parents, Louis and Magdalen Wiatrek, and his siblings, Kasper Wiatrek, Chester Wiatrek, and Alvin Wiatrek.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Wiatrek; daughter Stephanie Dowlearn, husband Dale; grandchildren, Taylor Cantu, Noah Cantu, and Emmalyn Cantu; siblings, Eugenia Harms, husband Garland, Mary Rose Carter, husband John, Gilbert Wiatrek, wife Agnes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
