Paul Gomez Abila, 76, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on October 28, 2026, after a long journey with Alzheimer's. Though the disease slowly took his memories, it could never take the love and laughter he gave to everyone around him.
Paul was born on June 29, 1950, in Odessa, Texas. He built his career in sales, a perfect fit for a man who loved people as much as Paul did. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, and before long he'd have them laughing at one of his stories or jokes. At any gathering, Paul was the life of the party, the one everyone hoped would show up.
As much as he enjoyed his work, his heart always belonged to his family. When he wasn't working, he was with them. Some of his happiest moments came behind the wheel on family road trips, taking his loved ones across the country to see the beautiful sights of the West. Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Wyoming became part of the family's story, and those memories remain treasured by all who rode along.
Paul was married to his beloved wife, Lydia Marquez Abila, for 43 years. She preceded him in death, and his family takes comfort in knowing they are together again.
He is survived by his sons, Paul Anthony Abila and Stephen Ray Abila and his wife, Angelina Abila; his grandchildren, Victoria Colleen Abila, Paul Christopher Abila, and Samantha Grace Abila, Lilly Angelina Abila, Laila Rose Abila; and his great-grandchild, Stone Nicholas Perez.
A man of Christian faith, Paul now rests in the peace of the Lord.
