Obituary

My beloved mother, Olga M. Castillo, was called home to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ on June 15, 2024, surrounded by loving family members. She succumbed to heart failure at the age of 93.

Mom was born to Jesus M. and Josefina A. Martinez in San Antonio, Texas.  She graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1949.  She was employed at Judson Candy Company, Fort Sam-Joint Base San Antonio, Kelly AFB and Harcourt Publishing.  She retired from Kelly AFB as payroll supervisor.

Mom was a strong willed, independent woman.  She loved to dance, loved fashion and her high heels and coiffed hair.  After retirement she enjoyed playing bunco, traveling, especially gambling in Las Vegas, and going to the YMCA where she loved water aerobics, stationary biking and walking.  Mother loved her family, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.  She had a strong faith in God and enjoyed attending the healing mass at St. Margaret Mary's Church. She had a wonderful sense of humor even in her last days.

Olga was preceded in death by her spouse, Rogelio Castillo, parents: Jesus M. Martinez and Josefina A. Martinez; sisters: Elvira Villarreal and Beatrice Valdez; brothers: Jesus Martinez, Jr., Leopoldo Martinez, Rudolfo Martinez, Jose Martinez and Eluterio Martinez.

Olga is survived by her daughter, Josephine I. Gutierrez and numerous nieces and nephews.  Her absence will be deeply felt by the whole family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known her.  We take comfort in all the wonderful memories and impact she made in our lives. Mom, you can rest now.  Now you're reunited with your love, Rogelio and your parents, brothers, sisters and friends.

I would like to thank everyone for all the phone calls, visits, gifts and foods sent to mom, they brightened her days.  Also, many thanks to the staff of Gentiva Hospice: Jessica, Leticia, Miss D, Yvonne, Raquel, Sara, Sheronda and Chaplain Todd.  Also, thanks to Dr. M. Gonzaba and Dr. M. Farivar.
