Nicolas "Nick" Perales, Jr., 87, of San Antonio, Texas, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at St. Francis Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Perales was born on February 19, 1936, to parents Nicolas Perales, Sr. and Grace Edwards Perales in Corpus Christi, Texas. Nick graduated from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, followed by two years at Del Mar Junior College where he met the love of his life, Josephine "JoJo" Guerra. They married on September 22, 1956, at Corpus Christi Cathedral.

Nick served his country while in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959, being stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso as well as in Frankfurt, Germany.  Upon his return to the States, Nick and Josephine settled in San Antonio where he began his teaching career at St. Peter Prince of the Apostle Catholic School as a coach and math teacher.  While furthering his education at St. Mary's University, Nick coached and taught math at Hawthorne Middle School. Upon his graduation with a bachelor's degree in physical education and mathematics from St. Mary's, he taught math (primarily in Algebra) at Jefferson High School for 17 years. After retiring, Nick remained in the education field as a substitute math teacher for Alamo Heights Independent School District and Blessed Sacrament School.

Nick was an athlete since childhood playing baseball, basketball and football through high school. He shared his passion for sports with his 4 siblings and their families, his 3 daughters and their husbands, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed cheering them on as they played. When not at a loved ones' sporting event, you could find him in front of the television or attending a game in person supporting his favorite teams: the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Astros & Dallas Cowboys.

Most importantly, Nick was a man of God. He and JoJo have been parishioners of Blessed Sacrament Church for 51 years. He served his church faithfully as a lector, sacristan, Eucharistic minister, ACTS member, and mass greeter. He also assisted his wife in various church duties all year long. For the past 26 years, Nick and JoJo picked up and delivered the hosts for the mass services for the Blessed Sacrament Church community.

In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanette Marie Gramling; grandson, Jerry Britt III; and brother-in-law Andrew Alvarez.

Those left to cherish his legacy are his loving wife of 66 years, Josephine "JoJo" Perales and numerous loving family members & friends.
