Nelly de la Garza de Luna was called Home on October 9, 2024.  Nelly was born on March 1, 1932 in Sabinas Hidalgo, N.L., Mexico.  She was the second child born to Victoriano and Guadalupe de la Garza.

She finished school in Mexico and then came to Laredo, Texas to learn English at St Augustine High School, then graduated with Top Honors from Martin High School.  She met the love of her life Alfredo (Sonny) de Luna and married on May 17, 1959.  They were married for 50 years until his passing on October 22, 2007.  When they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas Nelly attended beauty school and earned her cosmetology license.  In 1963 they were invited to open one of the first Beauty Supply Franchises and moved back to Laredo where they had most of their family.  They were in business together for 44 years, and then after fathers passing, mom still ran the business for another 5 years.

Mother was a woman of few words. She was a woman of action.  Her home was opened to everyone anytime.  Her philosophy was "where one eats many more can eat".  She showed us to dream and go for what you wanted, nothing was impossible with prayer and hard work.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Nelly is survived by Nellie (Pete) Tijerina; grandchildren Natalie (Warren) Wilkins, Peter (Alyssa) Tijerina; Alexandrina (Ricardo) Gonzalez; grandchildren Daniel (Whitney) Gonzalez, Kristina (Scott) Dravis, great grandchildren Grace and Matthew Gonzalez; Fred (Iracema) de Luna; grandchildren Alfred de luna, Andrea de luna, Alberto (Cynthia) de Luna, great grandchildren Alberto de Luna Jr., Mathew de Luna, Johnathan de Luna, Alex (Valentina) de Luna, Carlos (Jacqueline) de Luna, Carlos de Luna II, Alexa de Luna and Joaquin de Luna lastly Patricia de Luna.
