Obituary

Born in Asbury Park, NJ to George H. Hofmann and Esther M. Popp, Nancy went to be with the Lord on Feb 2nd. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Patrick J. Osborn Sr, her brother, George "Sonny" Jr and sister Joyce Fowlkes.  She is survived by her sisters: Claire Aselin, Esther "Margie" Wright, and Patty McReynolds; children: Patrick (Cynthia-dec.), Gerald (Dolores), Michael, Ann Van Delist (David-dec.), John (Kim), Margaret Osborn Johnston (Thomas), David "Ozzie" (Jennifer) and daughter-in-law, Jan Osborn; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy was a long time member of the Altar Society at St Mary Magdalen, a Eucharistic minister, a Lector, and a Marianist Affiliate. The family wishes to extend their utmost gratitude to the staff at the McCullough Hall Nursing Facility for the familial love and care they provided our mother over the last 8-1/2 years. Nancy first met her husband Pat when they were in grade school and their houses were a mere hundred yards apart on Huisache and Ripley Streets in St Anne's Parish. Later Nancy's family moved to Vanderbilt St in St Gerard's Parish where Nancy attended St Gerard's High School graduating in 1940.

She then attended business school on a scholarship. She worked for Gerhardt's Paint Store before the Family moved to Houston where Nancy worked for Western Electric during the war. She and Pat obviously didn't forget each other as they wrote each other during the war and married in 1945 when Pat returned from Europe.  They were devout Catholics and raised their seven children in St Mary Magdalen's Parish. Nancy dedicated herself to caring for her husband and raising her children; she always put them first. Among many, many things she prepared simple and delicious meals, and spent many a late night washing and ironing uniforms (no permanent press in those days).

As anyone who knew her can attest Nancy was a very sweet, gentle person who never had a cross word for anyone. She and Pat raised their children to be accepting, and respectful of everyone no matter their station in life.

The most important thing to Nancy was the people in her life, especially her family. Grandchildren remember her fondness for cards and other games. Teachers, priests, and religious were always close to her heart as well. She and the other members of her graduating class at St Gerard's High School remained friends and had regular monthly lunch meetings through the years. These meetings began as the Double Ring Club and the young married couples would meet for dinner and dancing.  When Nancy met someone new, she always seemed to be able to find someone through whom they had a connection. And she had a great memory for the details people would tell her and was able to remember and ask about them years later.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,

where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.

But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay

destroys, nor thieves break in and steal." Mt. 6; 19-20

Pallbearers are grandchildren:
