Nancy M. Flores at age 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2022, with her loving son––primary caregiver, Miguel R. Flores Jr. and his wife, Ester Flores by her side. She was born in Monterrey, Mexico amid a bustling houseful of brothers and sisters. Her family was fond of American shopping and made frequent trips to Texas. These trips also carved social time with a San Antonio family, also filled with male and female siblings. The families visited often as they shared a longstanding hometown connection dating back to early 1900's in Cuidad Victoria, Mexico.
Ultimately a marriage engagement within the second-generation of Flores and Montemayor families emerged. Nancy, ever the consummate shopper, mailed her fiancé, Miguel R. Flores, the American advertisement of the wedding ring she wanted. Once married, she arose to the instant challenges of her new life in San Antonio. While ironing, child rearing and learning English from soap operas, Nancy's skills expanded quickly from limited terms like 'Sale - 50% off', to great precision and command. Her children fondly recall when she theatrically reached for the Spanish-English dictionary, fanning pages quickly till finding the precise English word and winning humorous debates with their Central Catholic graduate––dad.
Nancy was always studying to enhance all aspects of the family household and businesses. Early in the marriage, her husband dubbed her "Dr. Nancy" and was ultimately surprised the first born survived her strict adherence to Dr. Spock's guidance. She was also a first-class nurturer, cook and seamstress; introducing her children to: dance, swimming, scouting, crafts like candle making, tie-dye, and much more. As a cook, her mini sugar tortillas, homemade chorizo and chile rellenos, remain legendary. Nancy enjoyed traveling in the U.S and abroad with her husband and family, instilling the love of travel to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews; traveling to: Alaska, Germany, England, Spain, Panama and more.
As she and her husband neared their 90's, Nancy emphasized they daily had to share a kiss and a hug by each end of day. Despite physical challenges, as possible, they kept this practice. One area Nancy never quite mastered, was punctuality. Ultimately, in good humor, her husband's frustrating catchphrase, " Vamonos Nancy " (let's go Nancy!), became a longstanding family mantra, with widespread use beyond the immediate family. And now as a fitting tribute, mom joins dad, on time, for his last call, " Vamonos Nancy".
Within the past year, Nancy was lovingly cared for 24/7, in the home of Miguel R. Flores Jr. and Ester Flores. All her children attended to her care, in various capacities, when able, as some live out-of-town. And a special thanks deserves mentioning to VITAS Hospice Healthcare for the gamut of top-quality assistance and respectful care provided.
Preceded in death recently by her loving husband, Miguel R. Flores, Nancy is survived by her children and their spouses: Dolores Flores, Miguel R. Flores, Jr., (Ester Flores), Teresa Reese, Dina Adas (Abdul Adas), and Edgar Flores (Janet Flores); her siblings Edna Villarreal, Elsy Montemayor and Edgar Montemayor; in-laws Maria Angela Flores and Jose Flores; ten beloved grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; countless loving nephews and nieces.
