MSgt. Ruben T. Gonzalez, age 76 of San Antonio, Tx was called home to be reunited with his wife Sylvia on May 20, 2017.  He was a proud military veteran having joined the Air Force in 1961.  He served in Vietnam and retired in 1982.  Shortly after that he joined the work force at what was then Kelly Air Force Base.

Up until his second retirement Ruben was always working.  Whether it was cotton fields or being a caddy as a youngster, working at Stowers Furniture before joining the military or having his own landscaping company he was always driven by a strong work ethic.  He even taught college level classes as NMSU-Alamogordo in Non-Destructive Inspection.

Ruben had a wide range of hobbies.  He started collecting seashells in Guam and carried that till the early '70's in Okinawa.  He was an avid scuba diver and golfer in his military days and enrolled in classes at St. Philips to occupy his time learning plumbing and computer skills.

He was always quick to lend a hand and a smile.  Ruben could often be found helping those in need and was a friend that truly cared.  He was a dedicated father that would do anything for his kids and enjoyed being a grandfather.  Towards the end, all he could talk about was going home to be with mom.

He is survived by his children Daniel Ray Gonzalez, Brenda Lynn Torres and Lisa Marie Gonzalez; sisters: Delia Garza and Alice Garcia; brother, Ismael Gonzalez; grandchildren: Danielle, Zoe, Noah, Daniel and Gabriel.

Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30 A.M.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Interment will follow at
Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
with full military honors
