Minnie D. Garcia, a native San Antonian, was born on March 4, 1924. She was called to rest on June 6th, 2020. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Matt W. Garcia, mother, Teresa Perez Domangue, father, Jean Pierre "Pat" Domangue, brother, Arthur A. Domangue, sister, Josephine D. Galvan, and twin sister Winnie D. Doria.
She is survived by her children, David M. Garcia (Elva Garcia), Cecilia L. Alanis. Matt Garcia Jr., and Cynthia G. Martinez (Joe Martinez) and by 8 grandchildren who were her pride and joy.
Minnie attended Brackenridge High School, and St. Mary's University, where she met her husband, the late State Representative Matt Garcia. Prior to her enthusiastic political years filled with campaigning, rallies, block walking, and supportive parties, she was a part of San Antonio history in the Civic work she loved so passionately. Minnie worked at the San Antonio Development Agency in relocation with preparations for Hemisfair '68, which led her to a direct path to helping her community. If there was a cause Minnie was there. Working with the underserved and women's issues in particular were her initiatives to champion.
Throughout the years, Minnie was the perfect host to their Christmas parties at their lovely Mulberry home in Monte Vista. This was a backdrop for all friends and family to gather and celebrate with Minnie's elegant touch. Naturally, like most San Antonio grandmothers, she was a staunch Spurs fan. Minnie could always be found rooting for her team, at her family's houses, at a game or at home, always laughing, always rooting, always cheering. This would describe Minnie at her passion late in life for Las Vegas. This was Minnie's lucky getaway where she often beat the odds with winning tournaments and escaped for a good time with the slots.
Minnie was a daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. We remember her smile and the gift to make life memorable.
